Ciao Bella may be one of the new kids on the block – open since July 2015 – but they are no newcomers to wine. The Fiume family’s history of grape growing and winemaking started in Napoli, Italy with Luigi and Melina. The Pinot Rosé label features Melina (who turned 81 in April) on Luigi’s Vespa. That handsome fellow on the Pinot Grigio label is Luigi, who will be celebrating his 86th birthday in June. The picture was taken approximately a week before Luigi and Melina immigrated to Yellowknife in 1956. Unfazed by Yellowknife’s weather, the Fiume’s continued to make…

It is a sight to behold…a charming, quaint winery nestled at the base of a 60 million year old former volcano. Mt. Boucherie delivers outstanding ambiance, overshadowed only by their delightful wines. Mt. Boucherie is known for their excellent wines and thoroughly knowledgeable, approachable wine shop staff. Carole and her team, Krista and Karen, love to talk wine with their visitors. Ask them anything – they’ll be pleased to sip and chat. One of Mt. Boucherie’s greatest strengths is the vineyards in which they grow their grape varietals. They have vineyards on site in West Kelowna as well as in…

On a snowy February day, Mt. Boucheries’ Craig McCulloch and Peter Contos are full of good news for the upcoming spring.  McCulloch, vice president and CEO, says their extremely popular Gamay Noir, which has been absent from the market recently, will be released at the end of March.   “It’s fabulous,” he says simply.  “There are floral, slightly earthy tones with red berries, red plums and a long finish of vanilla and soft tannins.” All the Gamay grapes come from their 75 acres in the Similkameen Valley.  McCulloch says the Gamay is a great introduction to red wines for young…

The winery is the hard earned dream of the Fiume family, Roberto and Sharon along with kids Antonio and Olivia, who began the commercial cultivation of their first grapes in 2014 with the help of the expert viticulturalist Dr. Alan Marks and the guidance of the celebrated winemaker Jim Faulkner. The property is deeply rooted in the wine growing history of the Okanagan Valley, and is home  to stubby, thick-trunked vines that are more than 60 years old, the oldest in West Kelowna! On a sunny day, one can sit back with a picnic in the garden, and take in…
