Basket Case Picnics Makes Every Occasion Special & More Fun

Contributor · April 2, 2012 ·

Basket Case Picnics is gearing up for picnic season in their second year out on the road in the Okanagan.  The catering company with its mobile kitchen supplies gourmet meals and al fresco favorites to everyone from boaters to wineries, and wedding parties to corporate meetings.  You will see them weekly at the farmers markets in Kelowna, Vernon and Peachland.  This innovative food supplier goes well beyond the usual fare and takes picnicking to a whole new level by using fresh, organic produce and hormone/anti-biotic free meats, and assembles its picnics in environmentally-respectful packaging.

Basket Case Picnics spent the winter months further developing partnerships with several wineries, catering everything from single day special events, to offering onsite restaurant style service.  The company is set up to conveniently arrive at a winery or similar venue and create a culinary experience to pair with their libations, and already has several events booked for the spring and summer.

At the Farmers Markets this year they are expanding to meet demand with an outdoor grill and purpose built oven serving gourmet flatbreads onsite.    In addition to ordering their a la carte bestsellers, as last year you can wander up to the trailer, order a picnic basket to go, finish up your shopping and return to pick it up.  Each basket includes four fabulous courses including an appetizer, salad, main event and dessert.  Ethnic menus such as Greek, Italian and French-themed meals can be ordered, or choose the totally custom Memory Maker, allowing at least 24 hours to prepare.  The Daily Cornucopia Basket changes weekly, with a selection of dishes creatively honoring a specific fruit or vegetable in season, and is available to be picked up without notice.

Owner Kelsey Galt has been nominated for Best New Business as well as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Online ordering is in the works, and the company updates its website and Facebook fan page regularly so you can find them on any given day.
