New Look, New Winemaker – Still As Green As Ever!

Courtney Fossett · May 31, 2012 ·

The name Kalala means “miracle place” in Punjab.  Kalala Estate Winery is known for their dedication to organic viticulture practices.  The proprietor has used that green ideology to create an organic oasis.   Such is their reputation for environmentally sustainable practices that they received the Green Key Business award from the Westbank and District Chamber of Commerce recently.  Winemaker Stephanie Van Dyk had this to say:  “We are thrilled about this award here at Kalala Organic Estate Winery.  We are proud of our award winning wines we produce from 100% organic grapes.  We also strive to promote organic vineyard practices to all growers who are interested.  We want everyone to know that you can grow grapes in a sustainable way and still make a wonderful product.”

Stephanie Van Dyk joined Kalala fairly recently.  She has been making wine in the Okanagan for ten years; working with well-known wineries Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Township 7.  She is excited to be a part of the vision at Kalala.

The wine shop at Kalala is open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm.  Come by for a visit and check out their new releases, sporting their new labels.  The 2010 Harmony Red is a medium bodied blend of Tempranillo, Zweigelt and Merlot.  This spicy wine exhibits notes of black pepper, ripe cherries and violets.  The 2010 Harmony White is a delightful marriage of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Auxerrois that is just loaded with tropical fruit and citrus flavours, underscored with distinct herbal notes.
