Sonoran Estate Winery – For the Love of the Sun

Contributor · May 31, 2012 ·

The Okanagan is home to many families who are here for the lifestyle and Arjan and Ada Smits and their son, Adrian, are a perfect example. They fell in love with Summerland 12 years ago. Now they own Sonoran Estate Winery and spend their summers chatting with visitors from around the world who taste the wines and enjoy the panoramic views from the Full Moon Bistro patio overlooking Okanagan Lake, or picnic in the vineyard.

The Smits offer quintessential Okanagan hospitality at their wine shop and their award-winning wines showcase the hand-crafted style and quality that has become indicative of Okanagan wines. Their European heritage shows through in the wines as well; refreshing and aromatic Germanic whites and icewines, and deep, rich Bordeaux style reds.

A visit to Sonoran Estate Winery encompasses all of your senses – you taste the wines, take in the view, listen to the breeze over the lake, smell the earth and vines, touch the rugged soil… and feel at home. During the Summer Wine Festival in July, watch for local musicians playing. Visit their beautiful new website for details www.sonoranwinery.com

2010 Oraniensteiner – $19.90

The only Okanagan example of this varietal, perfect for summer sipping. Apricot, orange peel, jasmine and green apple. Limited supply, so buy it while at the winery.

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon – $24.90

Impressive intensity of aromas and flavours, with bramble fruit, cloves, tobacco and licorice. Velvety finish.
