Artist Janis Blyth – A Naramata Creative Force

Contributor · June 4, 2012 ·

Originally from Victoria and Vancouver, Janis Blyth now resides in beautiful Naramata in the Okanagan wine region with her husband. She graduated from the University of Victoria, with honours in a Fine Arts Degree. Moving to Vancouver in 1982, Janis worked in retail clothing for many years. This experience reflects in her work, as the women she paints in her canvases are similar to the dressing up of a customer and creating a character. When she started to raise a family Janis gave up retail and went into her art full-time. She has participated in numerous solo and group shows and Janis’ artwork can be seen in public collections on the West Coast. The pictures are rich in colour and statement, often depicting women in humorous and soulful reflections. Living amidst the lush wineries, she has incorporated into her artwork wine related themes. Working mostly on canvases she sometimes goes astray and creates one-of-a-kind painted objects and antiques.

Janis’ art can now be seen on display at 3 Mile Winery in Penticton in the form of painted canvases, gourds, glass and even a beautifully festooned leather saddle. Love our summer cover? Janis has created Giclee canvas prints of the original painting featured on our cover that are for sale! They are $395 and are from a limited edition of 200 and are 21" x31" wrapped on a 1 1/2 inch deep wood frame.

You can also see Janis’ work and taste 3 Mile’s wine at the upcoming FLOWER POWER event in Kelowna on June 16th from 9 – 4. This is a self-guided tour of 8 private gardens including a palatial estate, a chef’s garden and an award winning small garden. Artists, wine tastings, demonstrations, the food truck from Okanagan Street Food and Waterfront’s pop up café complete this visual, cultural and culinary feast. Tickets available at: Bylands, Art Knapp, Green & Bear It, The Greenery, Dogwood Nursery & Rick’s Garden World.
