Quinta Ferreira – It Can’t Be Five Years Already

Contributor · June 4, 2012 ·

Is it really five years ago that Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery held its official opening? I remember it well, a brilliant first day of summer in 2007. Colleagues, industry folks, media, friends and family – a big crowd – cheered as the dignitaries joined the owners, John and Maria Ferreira, and cut the ribbon. It was a wine industry milestone – the first winery within the town boundaries of Oliver.

On Sunday, July 15th the Ferreira family will celebrate their 5th anniversary with an afternoon party. They will be offering traditional Portuguese Paella served with a glass of wine. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration. Watch for details at www.quintaferreira.com.

In honour of the occasion, son and Winemaker, Michael Ferreira, has created a special red blend called “Quinta”. This is a very limited production meant to commemorate their many accomplishments over the past 5 years.

Some of these accomplishments include completion of the amazing barrel caves, site of elegant dinners and home to maturing wines. The Mediterranean style patio was completed. Landscaping added to the beauty of the Estate or Quinta. The portfolio of superb wines continued to expand and win awards. The works of artists Carmen Tome, J. Herbert Latrielle and Okanagan Stoneworks were added to wine shop offerings.

And last year Michael Ferreira won his first Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in BC Wines for his 2008 Syrah – the youngest winemaker to win this prestigious honour.Moving forward Michael is adding two new red wines to their portfolio – Alagria, a 2009 red blend and a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines will join other favourites being released – 2009 Cabernet Franc, 2009 Merlot Cab and the 2009 Malbec.

PS. The 4th Annual Lamb Dinner in the Barrel cave is scheduled for September 29. It sells out, so get your tickets early.
