Spice up your life with LOCAL Indian Cuisine, Classes & Cocktails

Contributor · September 23, 2013 ·

Afamily run restaurant, Poppadoms combines Okanagan flavours and ingredients with traditional Indian dishes, making for a one of a kind taste. Each member of the Dosanj family lends their own talents and expertise to create a unique dining experience.

Behind the bar, brother Harry Dosanj has created an enticing list of Indian cocktails which are unique to Poppadoms. Using local fruits, the drinks bring Indian flair to classic cocktails by using spices and ingredients found in the Poppadoms kitchen. Try Dishoom 2 which is a refreshing gin and tonic made with cucumber, Okanagan Spirits gin, artisan tonic water and a green chilli kick. Or try the Chai-tini, which is a gin martini with black Masala chai and a homemade lemonade.

Mother, Jas Dosanj leads the kitchen and teaches the popular cooking classes. Each intimate class has a different theme using recipes covering areas across India such as Punjab, Kerala, Chennai and more. The class begins with a signature Poppadoms Masala chai before the class moves into the kitchen where students are first taught basic knife skills before venturing into the exotic recipes. The food is made using locally sourced ingredients, as are all of the dishes on the menu. After a fun cooking class the small group enjoys the fruits of their labour over a glass of Okanagan wine.

Cooking classes are available on a first come – first serve basis. For more information please contact www.poppadoms.ca/classes or phone 778-753-5563. Fall cooking classes will take place on September 15th, October 27th and November 17th.
