Summer Surprises At SpierHead Winery

Deanna Rainey · July 4, 2016 ·

It’s summer at SpierHead Winery and Proprietor Marina Knutson says they’ve been very busy this spring, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
A picturesque drive to southeast Kelowna will take you to SpierHead, where you can taste up to six wines for just $5, and one tasting fee is refunded for each bottle you purchase!
Now there are even more ways to pamper your palate at SpierHead. Beginning this summer, relax in the picnic area or bring up a group of friends or colleagues to the vineyard-framed events’ area, and enjoy some tempting foods to accompany your favorite wines. The Patio At SpierHead features charcuterie platters, a selection of cheeses and delicious thin crust pizza baked on site in the newly installed wood fired pizza oven. Hours for The Patio are 12pm to 6pm Wednesday through Saturday and 12pm to 5pm on Sundays.
The event area – great for corporate functions, small weddings or family get togethers – will comfortably host 50 to 75 people.  For that special occasion, you can order light fare catering through the winery.  And while you’re enjoying the view in the picnic or event areas, be sure to take a stroll through SpierHeads’ ‘demonstration vineyard’, where you’ll learn about the different varietals that are used to make sumptuous SpierHead wines.
The SpierHead team has been busy in the surrounding vineyard, too. This year an additional two acres of Riesling grapes have been planted, and a western facing slope is now home to 2.5 acres of new Pinot Noir grapes.
Marina’s recommendation for the perfect summer sipper is SpierHead’s 2015 Pinot Gris ($19.00).
“It’s so versatile. The Pinot Gris will go with all of the foods being offered on site, and any light or summer fare.  It pairs perfectly with many of the foods that are grown locally,” she said.
The Tasting Room at SpierHead Winery is open Sunday through Tuesday from 11am to 5:30, and Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
