Buy the Sea: Bringing the Sea to the Okanagan

Lesley Buxton · July 6, 2017 ·

Love great seafood? We have the place for you: Buy the Sea. Their two shops located in Penticton and West Kelowna provide the Okanagan with the freshest and largest selection of seafood available in the area. These folks love seafood and are so dedicated to offering their customers the very best that they are members of Ocean Wise; a program created by the Vancouver Aquarium to promote sustainability and ocean-sound choices. This means you can enjoy the produce at Buy the Sea with a clear conscience.
In keeping with this mandate, the shop offers the finest local and sustainable fish from BC, Alaska, and around the globe. During the summer season the options are endless. There’s: Sockeye Salmon, Red Spring Salmon, Coho Salmon, organic Spring Salmon plus a heap of other choices. One tasty possibility is the Arctic Char farmed at Road 17, a family farm in Oliver, where the motto is “Know your farmer, know your food.”
If cooking seafood makes you nervous, never fear, you’re in the hands of experts. Owner Mike Stokes and his staff all love to cook and eat fish. They’re happy to give advice or find you a great recipe. There’s also a delicious range of ready-made dishes from prawn and crab cakes, salmon burgers to Salmon Neptune’s, we offer a great variety of delicious ready to eat meal ideas!
But if you don’t feel like cooking, don’t worry. Try their fabulous Fish n’ Chip shop. Their fish and chips are made with wild cod and halibut from BC and Alaska along with wild haddock from Atlantic Canada. Both are delicious. But fish and chips aren’t the only dish on the menu. There’s home-made chowders, prawn and oyster meals and a variety of fish burgers. Eat-in or have a picnic overlooking one of the Okanagan’s beautiful lakes. It’s the perfect way to spend a summer day. www.buythesea.ca
