Meyer Magic

Elaine Davidson · November 29, 2017 ·

The #2 Small Winery in Canada, three golds, six silvers and three bronzes in the National Wine Awards (winealign.com) are an impressive confirmation of Meyer Family Vineyard’s approach to making wine.
“The awards are a tribute to the skills of our winemaker Chris Carson and to our focus on varietals,” says JAK Meyer. “We have determined what grows best in our vineyards and we focus on small case lots of varietals best suited and expressive of their unique place of origin. Our success at these awards speaks to our approach. Each wine reflects the single vineyard of its origin, the soil, the climate, the slope.”
Meyer Family Vineyards wines are produced on two main vineyards, the 1.62 hectare Old Main Road vineyard on the Naramata Bench and the 6.9 hectare McLean Creek Road vineyard in Okanagan Falls.
The gold winners are Meyer 2015 Tribute Series Chardonnay (Old Main Road Vineyard), 2015 Old Block Pinot Noir (McLean Creek Vineyard) and 2015 Micro Cuvée Pinot Noir (McLean Creek Vineyard).
Meyer is a consistent winner at these awards that had more than 1,700 entries from 240 wineries this year. Meyer has placed in the top 20 in Canada in three of the last five years of the National Wine Awards.
Internationally, London-based Marks & Spencer carries only one Canadian wine, Meyer, and has re-ordered for a third vintage. A Norwegian distributor is now on board as well and a quick sell-out and excellent response has also lead to a re-order.
The OK Fall’s winery’s clients seem to agree with the judges’ and international wine lovers’ palates. Many of Meyer’s wines are sold out. The answer is the Meyer Wine Club, which gives participants access to small production wines, new releases and wines only allocated for sale through the club. The last 50 cases of all the wines produced at Meyer are reserved for club members. The wine club’s popularity has lead to a cap of some of the packages and waitlists.
Those lucky enough to pay Meyer Family Vineyards a visit will enjoy the tasting room, patio, expansive lawns and sheltered garden overlooking the vines and can extend their visit by enjoying a lovely lunch of charcuterie, cheeses and other light fare where wine, cider and beer is available by the glass.

For those looking for a more in-depth and intimate tasting, a private VIP tasting will offer more of the Meyer Family Vineyards story. Guests will sample the estate’s premium and library wines. Book ahead by email at wineshop@MFVwines.com or by phoning 250-497-8553. MFVwines.com
