BUY THE SEA: THE OCEAN IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK

Lesley Buxton · May 1, 2018 ·

Buy the Sea has a well-established history of providing the Okanagan with the very best in seafood. Their two shops, located in Penticton and West Kelowna, consistently offer the freshest and largest selection of seafood in the area along with their famous Fish n’ Chip Shop.

This year, the Penticton store is celebrating an important milestone — its 25th anniversary. Owner Mike Stokes says, “We’re proud to be a long-serving member of the community and we plan to stay around for another 25 years.”

Mike and his staff pride themselves on providing excellent customer service, and they are a wealth of information when it comes to advice on cooking fish and finding the perfect recipe. Never hesitate to ask them for advice, since they love to help.

A member of the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise organization, they’re committed to sourcing the finest local and sustainable seafood available. This dedication means they receive fresh, daily shipments. The choices are limitless: ahi tuna, pickerel, spotted prawns, halibut cheeks and, of course, Pacific salmon: sockeye, red spring and coho.

They have a great selection of seafood condiments and seafood-oriented spices, many of them local, designed to accompany every style of meal. There’s an array of tasty, ready-made meals like salmon burgers, quiches and salmon skewers, which are available in BBQ Maple, Tequila Lime, White Wine and Herb. There’s also an assortment of smoked salmon, a quick and easy addition to pasta or salad.

Don’t feel like cooking? Try something from the Fish n’ Chip Shop. Not only does it have delicious Alaskan cod, Atlantic haddock or Pacific halibut meals, but also Fanny Bay oysters, prawns, seafood chowders and fish burgers. During the warmer months, the famous Baja Fish Tacos are back with taco shells from Penticton’s Wrap it Up, Alaskan cod, homemade Pico De Gallo and Crema…Yummy!
