Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery: The Winning Streak Continues

Lesley Buxton · June 28, 2018 ·

Golden Mile pioneers, the Gehringer Brothers, continue to woo wine critics with their exceptional vintages. Their summer lineup — the 2017 Dry Rock Sauvignon Blanc and the 2017 Gewürztraminer-Schönburger, discussed in the last edition of Wine Trails — is already making a mark.

Winning Wines

At the recent 2018 British Columbia Best of Varietal Wine Awards, a competition that brings together 26 different varietal categories, 550 wines and 14 judges, the Sauvignon Blanc took home the award for Best of Varietal and the Gewürztraminer-Schönburger picked up a Gold. Another award winner was the winery’s Desert Sun, which received a Silver. This white varietal is an understated medley of nine varieties — a perfect addition to any occasion.

If this wasn’t enough reason to celebrate, the winery won 11 awards including a Double Gold and six Golds at the Cascadia Wine Competition, operated by Great Northwest Wine. This prestigious competition is devoted to judging wines made with fruit from Washington, Oregon, Idaho or British Columbia. It brings together a panel of 21 experts who spend three days judging 1,012 wines.

Once again, this season’s sensations, the Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer-Schönburger, both did outstandingly well with a Best of Class/Gold and a Gold. Another Gold winner was the 2017 Rosé Cabernet Franc-Merlot, also mentioned in the last issue. This wine features two varietals — Merlot and Cabernet Franc — and is made for drinking outside on a sunny day.

The Private Reserve Pinot Gris 2017 was awarded a Silver at the Cascadia Wine Competition. This lovely wine tastes of honeyed apple. It’s earthy and food friendly. It’s perfect for accompanying a picnic or dinner on the patio.

The award winning Optimum Pinot Gris 2017 is part of the estate’s premier brand. The Optimum series is a select line of wines with outstanding characteristics. The Optimum Pinot Gris is smooth with a long mouth feel with notes of Okanagan peaches and pears. A truly elegant wine. Stop by the estate for a tasting and find out which is your favourite. Also enjoy these wines at fine eateries and liquor stores throughout BC.
