Fall Calls for Quinta Ferreira’s Big Reds

Roslyne Buchanan · September 7, 2018 ·

Now is the time to stock up on those big reds cherished in the cooler months. Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery’s tasting room remains open daily, 10 am to 6 pm, until October 31.

Big Reds

Quinta Ferreira’s flagship wine, Obra-Prima, is a stunning blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petite Verdot, which greets you with bell pepper and black cherry notes. With a sip, a concerto of mocha coffee, light cedar, cherry and sweet vanilla will play across your palate, its long spicy finish displaying hard candy flavours. Aged 25 months in 40 per cent new oak, with velvety tannins, this $35 wine drinks well over the next three to five years on its own or with grilled meats.

Lighter Blends

Looking for a red blend that’s a bit lighter? Try the Mistura Tinto, comprised of a lovely blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Offering a rich colour, it boasts an explosion of raspberry and chocolate, black cherry and blackberry, with a hint of spices and vanilla. It is aged 20 months in 75 per cent French/25 per cent American oak barrels and costs $20. The soft and velvety tannins together frame a symphony of fruit flavours on the finish. Drink now or any time over the next three years — on its own or paired with a variety of meats, pastas and cheeses.

Winemakers’ Dinner

Secure your tickets for Quinta Ferreira’s recurrently sold-out fall Winemakers’ Dinner, set in its Black Sage Road vineyards’ autumn splendour. Join the celebration of 11 years of harvest Quinta Ferreira-style with a four-course dinner prepared by Chef Adam Relvas. The event takes place from 6:30 to 10:30 pm, September 29. All courses are paired with Quinta Ferreira award-winning wines. Tickets are $135 all inclusive. Book now as space is limited.

For Wine Club details and event tickets, visit their Wine Shop and/or quintaferreira.com and follow them on Facebook, as well as @QuintaFerreira on Twitter and Instagram.
