Sanctuary and a Party at Hidden Chapel

Blake Allen · September 7, 2018 ·

As one might expect from the Wine Capital of Canada, Oliver can be a bit overwhelming at times. Between the constant rush and roar of the highway and the labyrinth of backroads, it’s easy to forget you’re supposed to be on vacation! But just a quick turn onto Pinehill Road and the sounds of the highway quickly fade as the weary traveller finds herself overlooking the valley below — the serene, garden-clad sanctuary that is Hidden Chapel Winery.

A Hidden Gem

This award-winning winery is one of those hidden gems that locals like to keep to themselves. Guests are greeted by friendly staff, winery dog included, as well as a wonderfully large and diverse portfolio that includes everything from well-aged reds (cellared for up to six years) to a rich array of whites, both dry and sweet. There’s even a rosé and sparkling for those of you still hoping to squeeze the most out of these last days of summer. At Hidden Chapel, you can sample just about all the Okanagan has to offer. Grab a bottle to take home after relaxing over a glass or two amid the chatter of songbirds in the garden.

Come Join the Party

But of course, no sanctuary (or vacation) is complete without a party! Be sure to swing by on September 29 from 1 to 5 pm for the First-Annual Chapel Challenge, a series of skill-testing contests, trivia challenges and vineyard golfing that make for a not so typical Sunday picnic. There will be free samplings and plenty of wine on hand, along with food and music, a religious -themed costume contest and plenty of opportunities to win a few bottles of wine (among other prizes). Tickets are limited, so be sure to drop by the winery or give them a ring at (250) 490-6000 to purchase.
