The Oasis That is Spirit Ridge

Lesley Buxton · September 7, 2018 ·

Anyone who has ever visited Spirit Ridge Resort knows this isn’t the kind of place one forgets. Located in the heart of the ancient home of the Osoyoos Indian Band, this land is infused with culture, history and beauty. From the perfect blue of Osoyoos Lake to the dramatic vistas of the Okanagan Range, visitors are enveloped in splendour.

Spirit Ridge is a modern-day oasis, boasting top-of-the-line amenities and accommodation. It’s the perfect venue for those hungering for a short getaway from the pressure of contemporary life. In keeping with this ideal, Spirit Ridge has created the ultimate autumn getaway. Throughout September and October, they’re offering a weekend accommodation package that includes a round-trip bus journey from Kelowna to the resort, leaving Friday and returning Sunday, so you don’t have to worry about driving. Be advised, seated is limited and expected to sell out quickly.

Wine and Golf

Guests are welcomed on Friday with a reception at NK’MIP Cellars, the first Aboriginal-owned winery in Canada. Throughout the years, this critically acclaimed winery has secured many awards, including medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards, the All Canadian Wine Championships and the Okanagan Wine Festival Best of Varietal Awards.

On Saturday, savour a sightseeing trip around the wineries on a guided tour and marvel at the beauty of the vine-covered hills, the orchards, the desert sage. Best of all, you’ll be able to indulge in tastings without worrying about driving. Later, back at the resort, relax around one of the pools, enjoy the hot tubs, or play a round of golf at the onsite Sonora Dunes Golf Course. Spend some time discovering the NK’MIP Desert Cultural Centre, located on the resort, and learn the story of the desert, the creatures that inhabit it, and the history of the Osoyoos Indian Band.

Onsite Restaurants

Don’t want to leave the resort for dinner? Not a problem. Check out one of the two eateries: Mica Restaurant, which showcases an eclectic collection of large and small plates, or the Patio Restaurant at NK’MIP Cellars, which serves food inspired by the region and its first people. Of course, you don’t even have to go out. Enjoy the amazing amenities of your suite with one of your wines from the day’s tour and a rotisserie chicken or handcrafted pizza from the resort’s market. There’s no need to leave your sanctuary.

Star Gazing

At nightfall, remember to step outside and appreciate the stars. The light pollution is limited here so the sky is stunning. Look up and try to forget that’ll you’ll soon be going home.
