Integrity, History & Terroir Mt. Boucherie Winery

Jennifer Schell · September 7, 2016 ·

Now recognized as pioneers of Okanagan wine history, Mt. Boucherie Winery has been growing grapes since 1968 working some 300 acres of vineyard properties.

With time and history comes knowledge. Mt. Boucherie’s legacy of growing grapes in different regions and terroir allows the winery to use 100% estate-grown grapes coming from all across the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. Grapes are harvested from their properties in the Similkameen, Okanagan Falls, Oliver Golden Mile and HQ in West Kelowna where their winery is located. The range of terroir gives winemaker Jim Faulkner the rare opportunity to create great diversity in the portfolio of wines produced, including 21 reds, whites and icewines.
There is a new management team in place at Mt. Boucherie Winery this year and they are thrilled to have the opportunity to take this great brand to the next level. Marketing manager Peter Contos says, “Our team takes care of every detail and we are proud of being among the few premier wineries who exclusively use grapes grown only from our own vineyards. With a career history and a passion for the food and wine industry, I am honored to be a brand ambassador for this prestigious winery.”
Celebrating 15 years in the Okanagan wine industry this year, Mt. Boucherie has become a destination for wine lovers. It proudly stands facing it’s namesake Mount Boucherie, the remnant of a former volcano, which was created more than 60 million years ago that created the unique soil conditions in the area.
Vice President Craig McCulloch and his wife Carole bring their passion for the industry to the team. Craig says, “I am proud to be a part of a winery with such history and am very excited for the future of Mt. Boucherie.”
The winery has years of awards stacked up behind its name, most of which were achieved under the special touch of winemaker Jim Faulkner. An interesting year so far in weather patterns for the grapes—the forecast is for an excellent vintage ahead. Jim notes, “2016 is an exciting year for the winemaking team at Mt. Boucherie Winery. New crush equipment and awesome vineyards.” Recently, an investment was made for this new equipment-allowing Jim make his magic more efficiently.
Loyal customers and new fans alike can look forward to a continued future of fine winemaking from this established family brand with deep roots, grown with integrity that holds a unique spot in the history of BC wine history.
